One of the first considerations in off-grid living is where do we get our water and how do we process our waste.

To start with, we will need to haul our water and set up individual water catchment systems for the people who are living there. As we build the main living centers, ie. kitchen, bathing facilities, etc. we will be designing those systems using the model from earth ships for reclaiming and using water.

There are registered wells in the area that range from 25-250+ feet. We plan to use a portable, do it yourself well drilling rig. One model can be seen here: but that is not the only company that makes them.

As far as recycling waste there are many options. One is to install a dump station for those who come in RV’s where they can empty their tanks, another option is compost piles. We will definitely be building out houses regardless of what other choices are made in addition to them.

Our power will come from Solar and Wind generators. Some people may still want to use propane for their cooking and hot water in their RV’s and that is fine. For the central community use areas we will be installing the solar and wind options.

Because we are in the beginning stages of building this community, Community members will need to bring their own living quarters. Tiny Houses, RV’s, Yurts, Tipi’s etc are all acceptable temporary housing until we get the permanent housing in place. Tiny houses and some RV’s would qualify for permanent housing shelters. There will be an area for visitors to park with their RV’s for short periods of time.

Here is some information on different types of fencing and their uses. We have not chosen which type we will be using yet.

Shower House

Community Kitchen

Root Cellar

Plans are to build an in ground root cellar most likely size to be about 12×16. That would depend on the materials used and for how many people in the community it is providing food storage space for.
